Terms of Service

LAST UPDATED: SEPTEMBER 2026 - LOCKKEEPER GAMES

By creating an account, activating an access key, or otherwise using this website or any game on it, you agree to these Terms of Service and to our Privacy & Fiction Notice, which governs how we handle your personal data. Access keys are bought from our reseller Paddle, and that purchase is also subject to Paddle's own terms (see section 5).

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. If you are under 18, you may only make a purchase with the consent of a parent or legal guardian.

2. License to play

Lockkeeper Games grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to access and play Silence of the North Sea and any other games on this platform, for your own personal, non-commercial entertainment. This licence does not give you any ownership of the game, its content, or the underlying software.

3. Intellectual property

All game content - including but not limited to the story, characters, puzzles, documents, images, audio, source code, the embedded puzzle websites, and the Silence of the North Sea and Lockkeeper Games names and logos - is the intellectual property of Lockkeeper Games or its licensors. Nothing in these terms transfers any of that ownership to you.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• decompile, reverse-engineer, or otherwise attempt to extract the source code, puzzle answers, or other underlying content of the game, except where this is expressly part of the intended puzzle-solving experience;
• use bots, scripts, or other automated means to interact with the game or bypass its intended progression;
• reproduce, redistribute, publish, or create derivative works from any part of the game without our prior written permission;
• use the game or its embedded tools to attack, probe, or gain unauthorised access to any system, on this platform or elsewhere.

We may suspend or terminate your account if we reasonably believe you have violated these terms. A suspension or termination for a violation does not entitle you to a refund. This does not affect your statutory rights as a consumer.

5. Accounts and purchases

You are responsible for keeping your account credentials confidential and for all activity under your account. Each access key can be used once, on one account. You may give an unused key to someone else as a gift, but you may not share keys publicly or resell them.

Our games are sold through Paddle, which acts as our authorised reseller and merchant of record. When you buy an access key, you buy it from Paddle, not from Lockkeeper Games. Paddle handles the payment, charges and pays any applicable VAT or sales tax, issues your receipt, and handles refunds and payment disputes. Your purchase is governed by Paddle's Buyer Terms. Which Paddle company you buy from depends on where you live.

Once you have a key, your use of the game is governed by these terms. How refunds and the right of withdrawal work for our games is explained in our Refund Policy.

Your access does not expire after a set period. It lasts as long as your account exists. An account that has not been logged into for 12 months is deleted automatically, together with its game progress and the access linked to it (see Privacy & Fiction Notice). The same happens if you delete your account yourself. In neither case does the deletion by itself entitle you to a refund. The game and all its content are provided in English only.

6. Liability

The game is provided "as is", without any guarantee of uninterrupted or error-free availability. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Lockkeeper Games is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages - including loss of data or interruption of service - arising from your use of the game. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be excluded under Dutch or EU law, or affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

7. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands. Any dispute that cannot be resolved informally will be submitted to the competent Dutch courts, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer-protection rules that apply in your country of residence. Your purchase from Paddle is governed separately by Paddle's Buyer Terms, including the law that applies to it.

8. Severability

If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in full effect.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date at the top of this page.
